McCracken County Public Safety Complex
The McCracken County Sheriff ’s Department combined efforts with Mercy Regional Emergency Medical Services to create a combined complex for the benefit of public safety. The larger portion of the program houses evidence storage for the Sheriff ’s Department. With the need for visual privacy from the general public, openings were raised up high enough to provide natural daylight while maintaining the needed confidentiality. Opening up to the south are the living spaces for two Emergency Medical Technicians. Their facility contains accommodations for 24 hour use with all necessary medical equipment and two ambulances.
With a modest budget, the goal of the project became a challenge to create interest out of the parts and pieces that are available in a typical metal building palette. The result is a simple form with subtle adjustments to the building skin, increasing interest for the surrounding community.
